Help make birthdays special at St. Jude's Ranch for Children

St. Jude's Ranch for children in Boulder City is a home and therapeutic residential treatment center for abused, abandoned and neglected children of all races and faiths. For more than 40 years, St. Jude’s Ranch for Children has provided a safe home to more than 1,000 children in Nevada and Texas. As with organizations of this nature, there is always a need.

Cindy of It's a Piece of Cake has started the "Cakes for Kids" program to get each child at St. Jude's a special birthday cake and gifts for their birthday. In the month of March, Cindy has three girls to supply birthday wishes for and would appreciate your help.

An empty space becomes office space with Enclose Movable Walls

It's easy to take an open space and create an office with Haworth products. Faciliteq recently finished this project, creating a space with two private offices, a conference room, reception station and three workstations. The Spring Las Vegas Market at the World Market Center has come to an end. Buyers from all over the world got a chance to see the newest products for Spring and buy, buy, buy. This show included an expanded Gift and Home division as well Kids and Home. Celebrities like Priscilla Presley, Jane Seymour and Kathy Ireland were in attendance, promoting their product lines as well as Las Vegas Market regulars.

The Pantone Color of the year for 2012 is Tangerine Tango, a deep reddish orange. The color of the year influences fashion, home and design in general. Tangerine Tango was all over the Las Vegas Market, along with accompanying bright colors like pink, yellow and green. In the next few months these product will pop up in stores around the country. For the lucky residents of Las Vegas, a lot of these products will be available in the permanent showrooms of the Las Vegas Design Center. Visit when the LVDC opens back up to the general public on February 6th.

Roberts also boasts Faciliteq on his company’s résumé, an office furniture supplier that a few years ago opened up at its downtown Main Street location in an automobile-repair shop built in the 1940s.

The National Museum of Organized Crime and Law Enforcement (aka the Mob Museum), will open to the public on February 14, 2012, coinciding with the famous St. Valentine's Day Massacre. The museum is located in the historic U. S. Post Office in downtown Las Vegas, and will give patrons the opportunity to learn about the history of the Mob in America. Faciliteq was lucky enough to outfit the executive offices for the museum.

Rob Kirkbride stopped in to interview Quentin Abramo about Faciliteq's involvement with the famous downtown Frank Gehry creation. The remarkable building is a first for Las Vegas and a bit of a first for Gehry. Typically Gehry fills his buildings with his own line of furniture. You've seen them everywhere, the trademark red sole peeking out from behind anchor desks, walking the red carpet and showcased in paparazzi photos. That red sole is found on every pair of shoes created by designer Christian Louboutin. When the Christian Louboutin boutique opened in the Shoppes at the Palazzo in Las Vegas, they needed shoe storage worthy of these luxurious shoes. Faciliteq and Montel were up to the task. What is collaborative space or coworking? Essentially it is the sharing of workspace by individuals not associated or employed by the same company. Sharing space makes it easier for individuals or small companies that don’t necessarily need an entire space for their business. Coworking also creates an environment where businesses with similar causes can work together and forge relationships. Working with others gives you the opportunity to share ideas, resources and even business contacts. The founders of Foursquare created their company in a collaborative space in New York City.

Desk space

Faciliteq’s building design creates an ideal structure for collaborative space. The LEED Silver Certified building is constructed with flexibility in mind. Beneath the raised floor tiles, utilities can be moved easily for configuration to any desk or space in the building. Desk spaces start at $550 a month and include 24 hour access, internet (via wifi or hardwire), conference room, kitchen, parking and even coffee. The collaborative space initiative is another example of the commitment Faciliteq has to the community, and the encouragement to live and work green.

NEOCAN'T Las Vegas 2011 took place at the Keep Memory Alive Events Center in downtown Las Vegas. Faciliteq Architectural Interiors was just one of many companies participating in this year's NEOCAN'T, an event to view new products introduced at the NEOCON trade show in Chicago.

Faciliteq building gains LEED Silver Certification

Faciliteq Architectural Interiors has been in Las Vegas since 1991. In 2007, Principal Quentin Abramo fell in love with the evolving downtown corridor and decided to move the company headquarters there. He purchased an old car garage on 817 S. Main Street and embarked on a mission of preservation and sustainability.

In August of 2011 the building was awarded LEED Silver Certification by the U.S. Green Building Council. LEED, stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. LEED is a green building certification system, providing outside verification that a building or community was designed and built to provide energy savings, water efficiency, good indoor air environmental quality, reduced CO2 emissions and evokes the preservation of resources.

To qualify for a LEED Silver Certification, a structure has to meet requirements within sustainability; water efficiency, energy and atmosphere, materials and resources, indoor environmental quality, innovation in design and regional priority. An arduous process is conducted to award a project “points” in each of these categories. A project will then be awarded a status based on the

amount of points accumulated. Forty points, the project is certified, fifty or more points the project is certified silver, sixty or more is gold and eighty or more is platinum. Everything in the building is considered in the rating from HVAC to flooring to desk chairs.
In the construction remodel of Faciliteq, the design incorporates the old with the new. The original bow trusses were kept and the engine hoist from the old garage serves a centerpiece of the showroom. In efforts to reach LEED certification, every material and process was verified in the LEED manuals put forth by the U.S. Green Building Council.They also had to change the everyday operations of the building, implementing green policies on waste, recycling, energy and chemical use to meet the standards of EBOM (Existing Building and Operations Maintenance) Certification.

The Faciliteq building also leases small spaces in an effort to provide Las Vegas businesses with a collaborative space community similar to those found in New York City and Minneapolis. Faciliteq Architectural Interiors is proud of their achievement and their commitment to sustainability, downtown and Las Vegas.
